Kathmandu, October 27 (Kartik 11, 2082).
The Nepal Buddhist Federation has expressed serious concern over recent incidents during the Gen Z movement held across various parts of the country, where certain activities and statements involving Gonpa (Buddhist Monasteries) have drawn public attention.
In an official press statement, the Federation stated that Buddhist monasteries and viharas are sacred spaces meant for spiritual study, meditation, compassion, and social service, not for political or divisive purposes.
“Viharas and Gonpas are centers of peace, non-violence, and compassion. Using them as platforms for political agitation or conflict contradicts Buddhist principles,” the statement said.
The statement, signed by Lop Sang Pemba Woze Tamang, General Secretary of the Federation, clarified that the remarks and actions made in the name of Gonpas do not represent the official position of the Nepal Buddhist Federation or the wider Buddhist community.
It further warned that such expressions could harm national peace, security, and unity, and called for restraint from all parties.
The Federation also noted that statements touching on foreign relations or political matters could negatively impact religious harmony and coexistence in Nepal. It urged authorities to take legal action against those spreading misinformation or false propaganda through media and social networks.
Emphasizing the core Buddhist values of peace, tolerance, compassion, and coexistence, the Federation appealed to citizens, media organizations, and social activists to uphold truth and non-violence.
“Let us not engage in misleading or violent propaganda; let us move forward together on the path of peace and truth,” the statement concluded.
